Where are the Olympics 2024?

This year, the Olympic Games take place in Paris, France. This is the first time the French capital has hosted the Olympics in 100 years. Paris was the host nation of the second modern-day Olympic Games in 1900. It quickly became the first city to host the games twice when they returned in 1924.

While most events will take place in or very close to Paris, there are a few outlying venues. Most soccer matches will occur outside of Paris in cities such as Lyon, Nice, and Marseille. The furthest event from Paris will be the surfing. The lucky surfers get to hit the waves in Tahiti, French Polynesia.

To keep things organised, they split the events at the Olympics into various zones. The main stadium being used throughout the Olympics is the Stade de France. It will host the closing ceremony and the bulk of tracks and field events. The opening ceremony will take place at Jardins du Trocadéro in front of over 330,000 fans.

When is the Opening Ceremony for the Paris Olympics?

The opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympics is Friday, July 26 at 7:30 pm IST. While every Olympics is a sight to behold, this year we could be in for a real treat. The event will last just under four hours as France will put on one heck of a show to kick-start this year’s competition.

The opening ceremony will last just under four hours. To keep things interesting, they break up the evening into several parts. This year, 206 nations are competing at the games. There is also the lighting of the Olympic torch, which includes a torch relay. To mark the start of the games, they lit the torch 100 days ago in Olympia, Greece. It will then journey across Europe and other territories on its way to Jardins du Trocadéro. 10,000 torchbearers will shoulder the responsibility as the torch represents the true start of the games.

They will also conduct a parade where they announce each nation and territory at the games. At each Olympic Games, the host nation tries to outdo their predecessors. The ceremonies in Beijing, London, and Tokyo were mesmerising, so the bar is now high for the French.

Where to Watch the Olympics in Ireland?

Irish residents looking to watch the Olympic action can tune into RTÉ. You can follow along live watching the RTÉ channels or watch online using the RTÉ Player. Either way, you will have access to dozens of events throughout the Olympics.

Because of the scheduling, catching every single event is impossible. However, RTÉ will produce daily recaps of all the big events and offer viewers interactive options to watch certain events. Ensure you check the schedule and plan for all the events you want to watch.

How Many Nations Compete at the Olympics?

At the Paris Olympics 2024, 206 nations are competing for gold medals. However, there are a couple of entries in this year’s competition that do not represent a country. 37 athletes are competing for the Refugee Olympic Team and 32 for the Individual Neutral Athletes.

The Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) is the name used for Belarusian and Russian athletes at the 2024 games. Both countries are banned from competing under their flags following the invasion of Ukraine. The IOC Refugee Olympic Team has 37 athletes from 11 countries competing. 14 of these athletes are Iranian, but there are also competitors from Africa, the Middle East, and South America.

When is the Closing Ceremony at the Paris Olympics in 2024?

The closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is on Sunday, 11th of August at 9:00 pm IST. The ceremony lasts two hours and 15 minutes before we officially mark the end of the summer games. At that point, it will be another two-year wait before the next Olympics. The Winter Games alternate with the Summer Olympics, with the next event taking place in Italy in 2026.
