St Brigid’s v Glen Preview

St Brigid’s (Roscommon) takes on Glen (Derry) in the 2024 AIB GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Club Championship this weekend. On Sunday, January 21st, at 3:30 pm, the two sides will battle it out at Croke Park in the SFC final. Glen will want to go one step further than 2022-23. It will be St Bridgid’s first appearance in the finals of the competition since 2013.

This year, we are hoping for a much more straightforward final after the debacle in 2023. The eventual winner of the tie, the Kilmacud Crokes, won under dubious circumstances. The Crokes finished the match with an extra player on the pitch. After much deliberation, Glen accepted the result and made it to the final in consecutive years. Somehow, we must put the past behind us and focus this week on St Brigid’s and Glen.

St Brigid’s v Glen Head-To-Head and Key Stats

Both teams battled right to the end to secure their spots in the All-Ireland Senior Club Championship final. St Brigid’s played at the FBD Semple Stadium in Thurles against Castlehaven GAA. The match was a close one, with the club from Roscommon coming out on top. The score finished 1-11 to 0-10 and ended Catlehaven’s chances of progressing to the final.

Glen also found it tough to get this far in the competition. They faced a rematch of last year’s final. The Kilmacud Crokes were the favourites heading into the competition, especially after success in the final the year before. However, justice prevailed when Glen dispatched the Crokes. The match finished 2-10 to 1-14, allowing Glen to write some wrongs in the history books.

The controversial final last year was the first one not to go to extra time since 2019. For those of you who don’t remember, the 2021 All-Ireland competitions were called off because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, Corofin won their third consecutive ALL-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship by defeating Kilcoo in extra time. Kilcoo had to wait a year but returned to the final in 2022 against the Kilmacud Crokes. After extra time in that game, Kilcoo was victorious.

That means the last two winners of the competition were finalists the season before, which is great news for Glen. No matter what team you support, you can’t help but sympathise with the injustice the club from Derry felt last year. However, St Brigid’s won’t make it easy for them. If Glen wants to win this All-Ireland final, they are going to have to do it the hard way against a very good Roscommon side.

St Brigid’s v Glen Predictions

Heading into this fixture, and Glen are the clear favourites at the bookies. Whether it’s because of what happened last year or because they dispatched the holders last round is anyone’s guess. However, one thing is for certain: the club from Derry has shown a lot of character. The odds for Glen to win in regulation time are 4/11. That means if you bet €25, you will only win €34.09 if they win before extra time. Placing the same value bet on St Brigid’s will return €100 as they have odds of 3/1. As we mentioned, two of the last three finals went to extra time. For that to happen again, the bookies are offering odds of 8/1, which will turn your €25 into €225.

Our prediction for the All-Ireland Senior Football Final is for Glen to win. While we have tried to keep any bias out of the equation, you can’t help but feel for the club from Derry. They had every right to protest the result from last year. But dropped the claim when the league questioned the logistical issues of a rematch. It took tremendous spirit to accept a gutter punch like that in the biggest game of the season, so hats off to them.

We predict Glen will win because they have been there and done it as recently as a year ago. St Brigid’s is playing some fantastic football, but this is their first appearance in the finals for over ten years. Anything can happen in a final, but you can’t help but feel the crowd and occasion suits Glen better.

We would love to see a Hollywood ending for the boys from Derry. However, sport does not always provide the endings you would expect. St Brigid’s has every right to play well on Sunday and ruin the party. It would be a shame if Watty Graham’s GAC loses again. But, as long as who wins does it with the legal number of players on the pitch, we won’t complain.

St Brigid’s v Glen Betting Tips

If you are considering betting on the GAA All-Ireland final, there are dozens of exciting markets to consider. We still back Glen to win on the day, but there are plenty of other options at the online sports betting websites. For those of you who agree with our prediction, you can increase your returns by choosing a winning margin. Glen to win the final by 1-3 points is worth 5/2. A €10 wager on this market will return €35, significantly more profit than an outright prediction.

One wager we feel could prove to be a winner is the first side to score a goal in the final. While the occasion is with Glen, it would be one heck of a statement for the Roscommon side to get the first goal. St Brigid’s scoring first has odds of 13/8, which will turn your €20 bet into €52.50. It goes against the narrative, but we can see St Brigid’s getting the first goal and making Glen work hard to lift that trophy.

If you want to bet on the final but do not know which side will win, there are other markets to consider. One of the easiest we find to get right is to bet on the total number of points scored. This match has a score of +27.5, which means you are guessing if there will be more or less than 28 points scored. The recent finals have seen less than 28 points scored, and with odds of 4/5, it’s certainly a bet worth considering.

Another weapon in your arsenal for this match is live betting. Betting on a Gaelic Football match as it transpires is a brilliant way to enjoy a game. If our prediction about Roscommon scoring first is right, the odds of Glen turning around an early deficit will go through the roof. Equally, wagers like Tiarnan Flanagan to score a goal will fluctuate throughout the contest. Getting the timing right on this wager could be massive if he finds the back of the net.

If this is your first time making an online sports bet, lots of providers will give you a welcome bonus to help you get started. Using your welcome bonus on the All-Ireland final is a fantastic idea. If you get your GAA bet right, you will have plenty of reasons to smile. But if you get it wrong, your deposited funds are still safe.

It might be a massive game this Sunday as St Brigid’s (Roscommon) takes on Glen (Derry), but does not get carried away. Yes, there is a fantastic opportunity to make some cash, but it’s very easy to lose it. Anything can happen in a game as big as this, so don’t get caught out by one mistake.
