St Brigid’s (Roscommon) takes on Glen (Derry) in the 2024 AIB GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Club Championship this weekend. On Sunday, January 21st, at 3:30 pm, the two sides will battle it out at Croke Park in the SFC final. Glen will want to go one step further than 2022-23. It will be St Bridgid’s first appearance in the finals of the competition since 2013.
This year, we are hoping for a much more straightforward final after the debacle in 2023. The eventual winner of the tie, the Kilmacud Crokes, won under dubious circumstances. No matter what team you support, you can’t help but sympathise with the injustice the club from Derry felt last year. However, St Brigid’s won’t make it easy for them. We predict Glen will win because they have been there and done it as recently as a year ago. St Brigid’s is playing some fantastic football, but this is their first appearance in the finals for over ten years. Anything can happen in a final, but you can’t help but feel the crowd and occasion suits Glen better.
We would love to see a Hollywood ending for the boys from Derry. However, sport does not always provide the endings you would expect. St Brigid’s has every right to play well on Sunday and ruin the party. It would be a shame if Watty Graham’s GAC loses again. But, as long as who wins does it with the legal number of players on the pitch, we won’t complain.
